Per Harold's request I googled for updated info on insurance and car rentals. Before when I googled, I found a site that said that a new law specifically required that liabilty insurance be included in the daily rate but I haven't found that exact article yet. However, the last part of this post from the Gringo Gazette debunks the much bandied advice that liability insurance is a LAW...

We had previously holidayed in Puerto Vallarta, but had unfortunately picked July and the rainy season. Very hot and humid! I had heard the warning to the brides-to-be that unless you want to sweat like a Sumo wrestler don't plan a wedding on the West Coast of Mexico in the summer.

I've been to PV 6 or 7 times now and 3 times my debit card was compromised, either by 'skimming' or some other means. I know for sure one of the machines was located in the vestibule outside Santander near the Vista Del Sol.

For those living in PV, which machine (location) do you feel comfortable using? I would prefer a Santander because of their affiliation with BOA but wouldn't mind paying a fee if there were a safer machine...

Driving car- first time

I've been doing my home work and now want you teachers to check it....
Have FM3, get car permit on line (is it at the Banjercito website?)
We are driving from Ohio.
Cross at Laredo (Columbia Bridge) or Reynosa (which is a better crossing?) ,
then to Monterrey, Saltillo, Malehula, San Louis de Potosi, Guadalajara, etc.

If we cross the border in the early morning, where would we likely be staying that evening? We are not used to a day of heavy driving........

Although the road is still unlit, at least now you can see the edges and the middle, thanks to new painted lines, marking the middle and the sides of the pavement.
Perhaps the solid line down the middle will encourage...

OK, I know we have had this discussion before, but the saved form site apparantely did not save on my computer. When I went to some of the address sites given in previous discussions, they did not work including Rolly's site. I found this site and I am wondering if this is the one I need for the car import form we will need when we drive down in December.

Alaska has been publishing low rates from PDX (Portland, OR) to PVR for $129 one way (excluding taxes) in the local newspaper lately. The only drawback is that you have to fly to Seattle and change planes. There are other restictions as well so read the fine print.
I'm sure they are running similar ads in Seattle, SF and LA and other West Coast cities.
