Hi Everyone,
Wow, it seems like I've been gone forever! Looks like my last post was in Feb. A lot has happened in the last few months so I'll try to fill you in with what's been going on.

I left the job that I had been retrained for (Obstetrical Technician..I hated it) and left the company too (after 14 years!!!!) I've got a new job just 12 miles from my apt. that I really like. I work with low income Mexican moms, about half who don't speak...

We had the first big rain of the season Yelapa last night. A real gully washer with thunder and lightening in the distance.

New Water Taxi To and From Yelapa

A Mexican from Nuevo Vallarta has instituted water taxi service from NV to Yelapa. The boat also stops at Los Muertos at 10 a.m. seven days a week and returns from Yelapa at 11 a.m. There are afternoon trips as well that I will post when I find out the schedule. The boat's name is Carley, which means sea turtle in Spanish and is pronounced Kar-Lay. Both the boat and motors are brand new.

I'm coming to Yelapa in November (and if all goes well, maybe more long term) and wondering if there is anywhere to salsa/cumbia/merengue/bachata/etc..., in other words, pretty much anything but Bob Marley or the Eagles Would I have to go into PV for Salsa? Thanks for any hints...

Hi All,
I didn't make it back in April...life gets in the way of plans! However, I'm thinking I might like to try a week of summer in Yelapa, thinking in terms of eventually making Yelapa home for the rest of my life someday! Yes, I've been in PV in August, so I'm not expecting "balmy" weather! Brad, I have a question for you....where would be a CHEAP place for a week in the summer that's close to the water?

Hello All,
I've recently discovered Yelapa after having already planned and paid for a Guatemala trip for my family (baby,husband,myself) this July 2008. Now I'd rather do Yelapa because I've been to Guatemala and this will be quite different from what we're used to. We'd like to stay 2 weeks for some R & R. I've noticed some lodging with no difference in ammentities, yet the prices vary considerably.

Lighthouse

Last night, the lighthouse that sits high on the hotel side of town was once again lit... Someone had stolen the solar panels and batteries years ago and it has since been out of operation. Umberto who championed the project twenty years ago would be proud. I'm glad to say I drug my fat butt up the hill one time to see it up close about ten years ago.

Hi there, I am looking to rent a place for 3 to 6 months beginning next winter 2009 January onward. We are two sort of old married adults and one sweet 11 year old kidheart. We do not need anything much, a basic simple kitchen, etc. Can be back upriver or in village. Please let me know if I am crazy to think that I can find a place for 6 to 7 hundred a month. Road to El Tuito - part 2

From Chacala the road firms up to a standard gravel washboard found in rural areas everywhere. The proximity to the seacoast is no longer apparent. The trees are deciduous, mainly some kind of oak, and pine trees dot the hills. Many roads intersect and signposts are few and far between. There's supposed to be deer and a few pumas about. I hope they're carrying canteens as the creekbeds are dry washes. This changes as we enter an upper basin of Rio Tuito. Plenty of groundwater here,...
