My wife and I are taking an early retirement and moving in 18 months when the condo is finished. We purchased at the Alamar in La Cruz area....PV is fantastic!! We are moving from the kelowna BC. How do you cope with the high humidity in June - August? Do you leave the air conditioning on all day and night? Any tips would be great! We will be arriving with just a few suit cases and starting from scatch. Any advise would be very helpful. talk to you soon g

Some people never use A/C but we find that impossible. We also try to save the restaurants with air for the summer months. It is as much the humidity as the temperature that gets to you. But cheer up September is worse.

Get a TV hookup in there. We rise early, make some kind of salad to go with whatever we're grilling, or put some food in the crockpot for dinner. One of our neighbors has a hotplate for cooking outside so that they don't heat up the inside. A couple of hours in the pool in the afternoon is fabulous, then a cool shower, and siesta is how to get through the hottest time of the day.

Your body will acclimate to the heat and humidity pretty quickly if you are lucky. We are in our early 60s and have not had a problem; it only took a few months. We have this theory that you will acclimate more quickly and live more healthily if you avoid AC, because your body is not constantly forced to make the adjustment. I'm not sure if that is valid or not - it might just be the consequence of our decision to NOT spend an extra $500 USD or more a month on electricity. Our house is on a very shady lot with many trees and we also chose to not completely enclose our lot with walls, which cut down the breeze. On the side facing the ocean breezes we put up cyclone fencing instead (of course, we have no neighbors on that side, just a lot full of palm trees , so it helps). Like safarre, I do my summer cooking in the early morning or use a crockpot. Being retired means we can keep physical activity to a minimum if we choose. That helps. Don't be too apprehensive - we worried about it far more than necessary and found that we adapted quickly and pretty comfortably. You WILL be covered with a fine sheen of moisture 24/7 and your clothes will stick to you, but you really do get used to it. This is our third summer and we actually look forward to it.

They had the AC cranked down to 20 and I was cold. Definitely acclimatization is going on. PV has been exceptionally cool: lows of 21 and highs of 28. On our balcony in the breeze, it has not been over 26.

We aren't as acclimatized as many here, we both think the summers are too hot and too humid for our liking. We use the A/C at night, set for about 27C. Getting rid of the dampness on the pillows and sheets makes it worthwhile, in my opinion!

But active, not in the hottest and most humid part of the day! That's the time for siesta and staying still.

Of course, one could just sit around and drink cerveza in the afternoons (which I do sometimes), but walking and sweating is pretty good for dumping excess.

It's hot in the Okanagan during peak summer 38 - 40 but with low humidity. That kind of weather only lasts a few months. Thats one of the reasons we are moving to PV. Man, hard to believe Moving to PV. Fantastic!!!! Looking forward to extended summers and lazing around the pool area.

We bought in Las Moras and are schedule to move in mid November. And yes, extended summers and lazing by the pool are definately on our agenda too!

We presently own a condo in PV and are looking for another property possibly for income as it is early retirement for myself also. Amazing how many of us from the okanagan need the same weather year round, cant wait.

My husband is mexican from the Baja and we spent 4 months in PV and fell in love with it. Have you ever eaten at DJ's restaurant in Kelowna? it is a mexican restaurant downtown close to the Grand hotel. Have you been going to PV for a long time?

Lived on the North Shore for most of our lives. P.V. just feels like home for us with the ocean, mountains and lush greenery!
